How to Increase Your Clickthroughs and Open Rates in Your Email Marketing

By Adam Holland

If you’re into internet marketing and you’ve got a list you’re promoting products, services, etc to – you obviously want more sales.  You want to make sure every email you send to your list has value so you’ll KEEP your readers.  You want as many people on your list to OPEN AND READ the email…  And then you want as many as possible to actually click the link in the email that goes to the web page with your offer on it.

Here’s some things I’ve done to help increase my percentages for both OPEN and CLICKTHROUGH rates.

To increase your opened email message ratio (how many emails that are sent vs. how many of them are actually opened) you need to work on your copywriting.  I know… I know.  If you’re a fulltimer in this industry you know this…  But if you’re a novice, just know that you want to use headlines that draw people’s attention.  Do NOT use regular words that you’d see everywhere.  I NEVER use ‘free’ or ‘offer’ or ‘business opportunity’ or anything close to that in my emails to my lists.  Those emails will see crappy open rates.

I like to peak the reader’s curiousity with titles like:

“My head is SPINNING, [[firstname]]”

“Forecast calls for RECESSION – Are You Ready to Lose Your Job?”

“Pick Your Nose or Pick Your Hours, Doesn’t Matter to Me…”

“[[firstname]], have you seen this?”

Ok, some of those aren’t my best… but you should be getting the point that you need to be unique.  Have fun with it.  Be yourself!

NEXT:  We want to increase our click-through rate (how often someone clicks on the link in the email that leads to the offer/sales page).

I noticed that on some of my emails where I had a link to the offer, the click-through rate was only 10% of the opened emails.  Sometimes less…  Some of these emails, though, I had included another link that WASN’T to the offer… but those links were getting as much as TWICE the number of clicks than the offer link!

Now, you’ve just written an email talking about a great resource/product/ etc and telling the readers on your email list that they should go to the site and buy it… and then they click on a totally different link??  Why, you ask?

The answer is in what KIND of link the second one was.  Put simply, the first link was to the OFFER… the second link was to a VIDEO I had posted on YOUTUBE.

Why do people click as much as twice on the youtube link, as opposed to the offer link?  Well, when they see a website like:

www.buymyaffiliateproduct.com or www.justanotherspamoffer.com

…they tend to not click through.  If when it’s a more “sticky” or “inviting” domain name, YouTube is a website that almost every person on the Internet has either been on or heard of.  It gets over a BILLION hits per day, for God’s sake!

I’d make a short video.  It could be a screencaptured video of me using the product, or a video of me talking about the product… but people are alot more comfortable going to a well-known and TRUSTED website than to the offer website directly.

And here’s the cool part: the FIRST line in the DESCRIPTION to your Youtube video you put your AFFILIATE LINK!!!

This way if they like what you said and now want to buy the product, they can click the link, go to the sales page, and order it!

This also will give you more views for that video on Youtube… more views, comments, and high ratings will boost your ranking not only on youtube, but on the search engines as well!!  Isn’t web 2.0 great?!

If you want to talk about this more, just opt in to any of my websites to get my cell phone number… ((Yea, I do give that number to anyone on my list…))
