Home Based Business - Scheduling is a Whole New Ball Game
I’ve been diligently working on the Explode My Business Mastermind Course for about 1 1/2 months now. The course itself has been done for over a week, and I’ve been working on the sales page, affiliate page, and download pages. (I always forget just how much code is a pain in the BUTT!)
Nonetheless, I wanted to write this blog specifically about how your schedule is SO much different when you start working from home. Having a “regular” schedule is very possible, but it’s just “not my style”. I’m a pretty spontaneous person… okay, or maybe I’m just lazy when it comes to planning stuff and just always come up with something last minute. But I’ve been PLANNING the launch of this course for a while now.
It was SUPPOSED to be 100% done and launched on the 1st. It’s now the 4th. Am I worried? No. The course itself is done. I just need to tie up a couple of loose ends, and we’ll be rolling. The nice thing about scheduling your own work hours is you can be VERY flexible.
Several weeks ago, my wife booked us for a camping trip for the beginning of the week. This trip would overlap with the launch of the course. Then I started to think about all of that “high pressure” crap from working one of my old sales jobs. Quotas, deadlines, a boss breathing down the back of my neck. The usual junk. But I didn’t have that feeling while working on my course. I was in a totally different state of mind.
I could’ve totally canceled the trip and probably got the course done “on time” (at least to what my original goal is). But I would’ve been neglecting my wife. And myself. I just DON’T take vacations all that often. This trip was really one of the first times my wife and I have been ANYWHERE since our honeymoon. We just never had the time or the money to do ANYTHING before.
And that’s why working from home is just so sweet now! I had CONTROL over what I needed to get done, when it needed to be done, and (ultimately) I had control over where I wanted to be.
Just think of that cliche’ scene that you see in movies, though. You may have even experienced this event personally…
The husband calls his wife. It’s about 10pm and he’s not home from work yet. There’s a “big project” that “needs to get done” at work, and he’s got to pull another “all-nighter” at his office. “Oh, and cancel the family vacation, honey. Duty calls.” Then the wife gets pissed and the husband draws that card… you know the one. “But, honey. If I don’t stay at the office, who will provide for the family? C’mon! Who puts the roof over your head? Who puts food on the table?”
Another argument. Another family who came second to someone else’s job.
Finally, I got fedup with that crap. And if you’ve had to deal with anything even remotely like that, you know EXACTLY what I mean.
It’s that moment where you truly realize that you’re a slave. Your company OWNS you… and there’s nothing you can do about it. They’ve got you. Shackles or handcuffs. Uniform or shirt and tie. No matter. You’ve still got to show up when THEY say you need to, and you leave when they say you leave.
They may fool you with “health benefits” (you know you can get those yourself as a business owner and they’re a tax-right-off, right?). They may fool you with a company car, company credit card, company cell phone. They may even throw you some extra cash around the holidays or throw in an extra weeks vacation after you’ve served the first five years of your 50 year sentence.
It’s 1am right now as I write this, and I’m sure that I’m being blatently honest because I’m a little tired. Ah well. Sorry if this offends you. But are you offended because what I say is a little abrasive? Or are you offended because what I say is the absolute truth?
I hope you read this and think long and hard about your future, friend. This morning when you wake up and read this, it’ll be the 4th of July. A day to celebrate our Independence. Freedom. Free Enterprise. But Monday morning, are you really ‘free’?
— Anyways, getting back to the original topic here… I wanted to give you an idea… a little insight into my frame of mind on how I schedule my time…
Yes, I brought my laptop camping with me. I’m guilty of ‘working on my vacation’. But to me it’s not really work. It’s a game. It’s FUN. It’s exciting to be a part of your own company where you control your paycheck.
I did a little work here and there, but most of my time I was enjoying myself. Swimming, horseshoes, camp fires. The works. But when I got home yesterday, we were back at 11… the car was unpacked by 11:30. After lunch, I decided to get some work done.
That was about noon. I took some short breaks here and there but before I knew it, it was 1am… that night. I worked for about 13 hours. And it didn’t even phase me. You see, like I said, it’s NOT WORK. It’s a ‘labor of love’. I enjoy what I do. I get such a ‘high’ working on this course because I know that when I’m done there’s going to be HUNDREDS of people that use the information in the course to earn a full time income… and win the right to work from home…
Today I worked about 6 hours. Because that’s what I felt like. Then I went and saw the new Will Smith movie “Hancock” (which was damn good btw). Because I could.
Don’t be fooled by all the hype online about “becoming a millionaire overnight” and “get rich quick” crap.
I’m talking about just replacing your fulltime income. You don’t need to make $1 million a year! What if you were making $10k per month? Could you quit your job and start working from home if you were bringing that it consistently, each and every month?
Most everyone could pay their bills, get out of debt, and live a pretty comfortable life on that income. And if I could do it, and I hand you the keys to my success, why can’t you?
I’m no “guru” or “mlm master” or something like that. I’m just a guy that was willing to learn what worked, applied what I learned, and have the patience and perseverance to stick it out until I figured out how to make it work.
You can take control of your life at any moment. And that moment will be here any day now. (The course is launching ASAP!)

Right on, Adam!
I’ve been watching for an email from you. No pressure intended - just eagerly waiting for the launch.
Happy 4th of July!

Great job Adam! I too have been anxiously awaiting. Hope your vacation was everything you and your wife wanted it to be.
Cheers!
