I shouldn’t really call this a ‘fiasco’ because I was able to correct the problem pretty quickly, but there were some consequences of this ordeal…
Basically, I use WordPress not only to blog, but to build my sites… ALL of my sites were built with the Word Press ‘engine’:
Adam-Holland.com
Explode-My-Business.com
RFSfacts.com
and a few more on the way…
The problem w/ the WP wysiwyg editor is that it changes pretty much ANY html code you put in to the code editor part… and when you switch between views, it changes stuff by itself… it could be as simple as a <br /> (new line) or messing up CAPTURE CODE!!
The purpose of many of my sites is to capture a visitors name and email when they want to get more info on a product or service… since WP messed up my code, it wasn’t working… And not only that, the error page took my visitors to an option to opt-in to MY COMPETITORS campaigns!
So now I’m spending money on PPC ads through Google and Yahoo, and I’m paying for those customers to join my competitors optin lists??!! So, needless to say that was a TOTAL cluster*uck…
And since it was WP messing up the GetResponse code, GR isn’t responsible for any cash I lost in PPC…
Now, there is a happy ending to this story… At first I was kind of up set because I was spending money driving traffic to my site, and I thought I wasn’t getting ANY optins on a few hundred visitors… I had spent ALOT of time tweaking the sales copy, redoing the intro video, and writing emails in the autoresponder campaign… And I thought no one was signing up to get my free 7 day boot camp…
When I correctly the problem, my optin rate went to 40%!!!! Holy crap! Imagine that.. when the autoresponder ISN’T capturing the visitors name and email you have a 0% optin! When it DOES capture, it’s 40%!! haha I’m looking forward to doing some more ‘tweaking’…
