Years vs. Books
ByI recently saw a quote from someone’s (let’s say ‘social network site profile’) that said: “Years Teach Us More Than Books.”
I was totally flabbergasted (I never get into a situation to be able to use that word, so I just HAD to). How naïve can you really be? Isn’t the reason we read books to be able to educate ourselves so we DON’T have to go through the same trials and tribulations that someone else had to go through?
I mean, don’t the highest military leaders in our country study war tactics and strategies so that when they get into battle they are prepared? They don’t just ship out troops and say “We’ll just adjust our strategy after we see how these guys do.”
Don’t the NFL football coaches study play books and video tapes so that they are prepared for their opposition that coming Sunday? Imagine not knowing that your opponents had the best running-back in the game and then getting out scored by 4 TDs.
If I was a professional chef, I’d probably have learned about recipes from the legendary chefs before me.
If I was an engineer, I’d probably learn from the engineers before me instead of trying to figure out how to make a light bulb again.
I could go on and on about this forever. I suppose the moral of the story is:
Even when someone tells you an interesting quote, it might not be intelligent.
Ok, I have to get back to reading now. Adios.
