When Your Upline Starts to Sound Like Miss South Carolina…
For those of you who haven’t seen the video, look it up on YouTube. When asked: “Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can’t locate the U.S. on a world map. Why do you think this is?”; Miss Teen USA contender Lauren Caitlin Upton (Miss South Carolina) responded…
“I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uhmmm, some people out there in our nation don’t have maps and uh, I believe that our, I, education like such as uh, South Africa, and uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and I believe that they should, uhhh, our education over here in the US should help the US, uh, should help South Africa, it should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future, for us.”
Wow. Total brain hiccup there, huh?
Well, back when I first got into network marketing I had a lot of questions for my upline on how to grow a massive organization and explode my income. Questions like: what’s the quickest way to expand your personal contact list? How do I grow my volume? Should I focus on retailing or recruiting?
And I had even tougher questions, like: Why do I have to use these expensive marketing tools to build my business? Why is this product so expensive? What’s the purpose of all of these meetings?
And my upline started to sound like Miss South Carolina. Stuttering. Bumbling their words. Not really making too much sense. They only half answered my questions, or they gave me some “token answer” that they maybe heard from their upline that just didn’t make any sense.
Did you ever get an answer like that and you were just kind of left out in the open, still unclear what you needed to do, and still confused about your to grow your business?
What does this mean?
I could be one of three things: 1.) the person you were talking to in your upline (whether they were your sponsor or not) just had absolutely no idea what they were talking about, or 2.) they’re a successful “kingpin” in their company, but probably built their business 10 years ago when the market was entirely different and their methods no longer work, or 3.) they’re a “kingpin”, but actually never had a thriving organization (meaning they BS-ed their way to the top, then their group fell apart because the advice they were being given on how to grow a successful business might as well have been from Miss South Carolina, and now you’re being handed the same pile of junk that fooled the group they had 10 years ago).
You need to make sure your getting your advice from someone with power, authority, knowledge, and respect in your network marketing company. Too many new mlmer’s are blindly following advice from people that either NEVER succeeded, or was successful 5-10 years ago and their group flopped.
So, what do you do? You need to check the fruit on the tree. Let’s see some bonus checks, let’s see some abundance in their life. It doesn’t even have to be monetary. Just how many people are in the room? If you’re still attending the same meeting week after week, and the number of people is NOT growing, you have a problem. Either what they are teaching is wrong or outdated, or just no one is doing anything. And both of these events occur all too often in this industry.
So, when you ask your upline a direct question and they give you the Miss South Carolina “I believe that our, umm, we have, well, sponsoring, and the downline…” it may be time to either look to that person’s upline, or look around the room. Nowadays there are so many network marketing opportunities that if you don’t get started with a growing company and on the right team, you are literally costing yourself millions…
Don’t be a “Miss South Carolina”…
Now Go Explode Your Business. And Explode Your Income.
