If you’ve read any self development books by now, you probably understand how important your dreams are and how you must consistently set new goals. Without consistent goal setting, it is very easy to get complacent. Without dreams, the steps (progressive goals) required along the way won’t mean as much and you probably won’t have the ambition to take things the extra mile when it’s required.
In order to have a dream that will always pick you up when you’ve been hit by an obstacle of any kind in your business (or in life), you need to have a CLEAR VISION OF WHAT YOU WANT. That’s so easy to say, but very difficult to fully comprehend.
By clear vision, I mean you have sat and thought… perhaps meditated… on where you will be in the next 5-10 years. What will you look like? What do you do on a daily basis? Who are you surrounding yourself with? Where do you live? Are you happy? Fulfilled? Are you where you want to be in life?
I cannot stress this enough. You must have a clear vision of the future. More specifically – your future. The only way I can explain this is to give you an overview on my dreams, not to say ‘this is what your dream needs to be’ but just to give you an idea of what I’m talking about when I say ‘clear vision’. This is where I see myself in the next 10 years.
I imagine myself waking up on a weekday, the warm sheets hold me tight like I’m being embraced by my mother’s warmth. I squint my eyes to the left of me to see my wife, still asleep. I reach over to her and hold her with a feeling of calmness and tranquility. We soon awake, shower and get dressed into some comfortable light weight clothing. (Ummm, I’ve omitted some content in there, but you get the picture…)
We trot down the stairs to the first floor of our home, and in to the kitchen. We have a live-in servant who has already cooked us a large breakfast. French toast with syrup, scrambled eggs, orange juice… everything I love to eat in the morning. After eating we take a brisk jog around the neighborhood. This gives us a chance to talk about what we’re going to do the rest of the week, among many other things.
After arriving home, we have to part as I am meeting up with a large group of friends for a while. I leave the home in my dream car, a metallic silver coupe with spinners, navigation system, incredible sound system… all the little toys and gadgets I’ve always wanted in my car.
When I meet up with these 20 or so friends, we always do something different. Some days it’s like we’re teenagers again and we’d play kickball or dodge ball or something like that. Some days we’d barbeque… for 10 hours. Some days we’d just talk about how incredible life is and how we’re changing the world day by day.
Some days we’d go to the beach, or skiing, or parasailing. All of the hobbies I wish I had the time to learn, I was already doing in my dream!
Friends, I could go on and on about this day, and the day after that, and the day after that. It’s because I have these visions already implanted into my subconscious because I have already spent hours thinking about them. Spend just 20 minutes right before you go to bed every night for one month just thinking about what life will be like in the near future. Create future memories, meaning – implant these thoughts in to your mind and remember them as if they already happened. Get your clear vision and get busy working towards it.

[…] I’ve written a lot of blogs about having the right attitude, overcoming fear, and a lot of other self development topics. I haven’t really touched on this topic all to much, but it does have a few things to do with having a clear vision. […]
