Desire: to long for; crave; want. The feeling that accompanies an unsatisfied state.
These were just some of the definitions I found online. And I really like that last part: The feeling that accompanies an unsatisfied state.
I never really though of desire that way, but it’s true. If you desire living somewhere other than where you live right now, it’s because you’re unsatisfied with your current situation. If you want a new car, it’s probably because of a dislike for the one you drive now.
It’s interesting, though, how we hear so many people complain over these things and don’t do anything about it. They desire to have a different job, or to have more control over their time or their money. They have a desire to learn how to sing, or sew, or play a new sport. But they don’t do anything about it.
So when does desire become so great that one will overcome the struggles and obstacles, and break through to get what they desire?
It’s when opportunity, action, motivation, faith, knowledge, and discipline meet that we start to move forward. And when this progression starts, not all of these factors will be in motion. You may need to start reading a book to get the knowledge, and when you find out a piece of knowledge you have a mental breakthrough. When those sparks start going off in your brain, you might have the faith to start to take action. And as you take action, you see results and decide to discipline and motivate yourself to take those actions consistently to achieve the particular desire you wanted to begin with.
The combination can be in most any order, but all of them must be present to obtain a goal or desire. If you are given an opportunity, but have no faith it won’t work. If you have the faith and take action, but lack the discipline to keep going with things get tough, I’m sorry, but you won’t obtain your desires.
I hope you’re continuously working on yourself, growing yourself, to be the leader you need to become. Remain persistent and consistent, and achieve the goals you want to achieve.
